In Pakistan the shaadi card now lives on WhatsApp. Guests open the picture once, but read the text again and again, right up to "which hall was it?" on the day. So the message matters as much as the card.
Quick answer: a good wedding invitation message for WhatsApp has a personal greeting, the couple's names, the event, the day, date and time, the venue with city, and who it is from. Send the card picture first and the text second, so your words show in the chat list. Below are samples in English, Urdu and Roman Urdu you can copy and change.
Wedding invitation message for WhatsApp: how to send it
A few small habits make the difference between a message people act on and one they scroll past:
- Picture first, then the text. WhatsApp shows the last message in the chat list. If the card goes last, people see "Photo". If the text goes last, they see "Assalam o Alaikum Khala jaan, Ayesha's shaadi…" and open it.
- Use their name. "Bilal bhai" or "Phuppo" at the start tells the person this was meant for them, not forwarded.
- Do not rely on big groups only. A card in the 200-member family group gets buried under forwards and "MashaAllah" replies. Post it there if you like, but send it to each household too.
- One message per family. Send it to the head of the house or the person who makes the plans, and name the family: "you, bhabhi and the kids".
- Write the day as well as the date. "Thursday, 17 December" saves everyone a trip to the calendar.

Formal invitation message for wedding (English)
For elders on the other side, family friends and anyone you would address as "Uncle" or "Aunty":
Assalam o Alaikum,
With the blessings of Allah, we are pleased to invite you and your family to the Barat and Nikah of our daughter Ayesha with Hamza, son of Mr Javed Iqbal.
Thursday, 17 December 2026
Nikah at 7:00 pm, dinner to follow
Royal Palm, Lahore
Your presence and duas will mean a great deal to us.
Tariq Mehmood & family
Short version
Assalam o Alaikum! Ayesha and Hamza's barat and nikah, inshaAllah, Thursday 17 December, 7:00 pm, Royal Palm Lahore. Please join us. Card attached. — Tariq Mehmood & family
Message for close family
For khalas, phuppos, chachas and cousins, drop the formal tone. They need all the dates, not just the main event, and they need to know they are expected early:
Khala jaan, Assalam o Alaikum! Alhamdulillah, Ayesha's dates are final. Dholki starts Saturday 12 December at home, mehndi Tuesday 15th, barat and nikah Thursday 17th at Royal Palm, and the walima Saturday 19th at Pearl Continental. None of it feels right without you, so please come a few days early. Card attached. — Sana
The same in Roman Urdu, which many cousins prefer to read:
Phuppo, Assalam o Alaikum! Alhamdulillah Ayesha ki shaadi ki dates final ho gayi hain. Dholki 12 December se ghar par, mehndi 15 ko, barat aur nikah 17 December Royal Palm mein, walima 19 ko PC mein. Aap ke baghair koi rasm poori nahi hogi, zaroor jaldi aaiye ga. Card saath bhej rahi hoon.
Message for colleagues
Colleagues are usually invited to one event, most often the walima. Keep it short, give a reply-by date and do not assume they know the city well:
Hi everyone, I'm getting married, alhamdulillah! I would be really happy to see you at our walima on Saturday, 19 December 2026, dinner at 8:00 pm, Pearl Continental, Lahore. Card attached. Please let me know by 10 December if you can come, so we can plan the seating. — Hamza
Posting in the office group is fine, but send your manager and your closest teammates a personal message as well.

Message for overseas relatives
Relatives in Dubai, Manchester or Toronto need two things others do not: the full week of dates, so they can book flights and leave, and a sense of where to stay.
Assalam o Alaikum Usman bhai and Hina bhabhi! Ayesha's shaadi is set, alhamdulillah: mehndi Tuesday 15 December, barat and nikah Thursday 17 December, walima Saturday 19 December, all in Lahore. If you can land by the 13th you will be here for everything. Send us your flight once it is booked and we will arrange pick-up from the airport. You are staying with us, of course.
Ideally this goes out months ahead as a save the date. Our guide to the save the date message has samples for that first, early message.
Wedding invitation message in Urdu
For many families the Urdu message is the main one, especially for elders. This is the formal shadi invitation message, the kind you would say on the phone to a respected relative:

If the card itself is in Urdu, keep the message in Urdu too. An Urdu nikah card in Nastaliq with an English message under it looks rushed; matching languages look cared for.
Message with an invitation website link
When there are four events, two halls and guests from three cities, one picture gets crowded. An invitation website puts everything behind a single link: the programme, Google Maps directions for each venue, and an RSVP where guests say how many are coming.
Assalam o Alaikum! Alhamdulillah, here is Ayesha and Hamza's shaadi invitation: chatwrapper.site/i/ayesha-hamza
Every event is there with the time and venue. Tap "Directions" to open the hall in Google Maps, and please press RSVP to tell us how many of you are coming, by 5 December. — Tariq Mehmood & family
In Roman Urdu:
Assalam o Alaikum! Ayesha aur Hamza ki shaadi ka invitation is link par hai: chatwrapper.site/i/ayesha-hamza. Saare functions ki date, time aur hall wahan hain, Google Maps directions bhi. RSVP daba kar bata dijiye ga kitne log aa rahe hain.
You can see what guests will open on the live invitation demos: an opening scene such as a wax-seal envelope or haveli doors, a countdown, the programme with Add to calendar, and a place for duas.
Reminder message a day before
Even people who said yes forget the hall. A short reminder the evening before, with the location pin, saves a dozen phone calls on the day:
Assalam o Alaikum! A gentle reminder that Ayesha's barat and nikah is tomorrow, Thursday 17 December. Nikah at 7:00 pm, Royal Palm, Lahore. Location pin below. See you there, inshaAllah!
Yaad dehani: kal Ayesha ki barat aur nikah hai, shaam 7 baje, Royal Palm Lahore. Location neeche bhej rahe hain. InshaAllah aap ka intezar rahega!

Mistakes that make guests call you
- No time. "Barat on the 17th" leaves people guessing whether to come at 6 or 9.
- Venue without city. "PC" could be Lahore, Karachi or Rawalpindi for guests from out of town.
- Different details on the card and in the message. Read both side by side before sending.
- Not saying who it is from. Forwarded cards lose their sender. End with your name or "Tariq Mehmood & family".
Card, message, then reminder
The simplest plan: make the card on the nikah and shaadi card maker in English or Urdu, download the 1080×1920 picture for WhatsApp, and send it with one of the messages above. If you would rather send one tidy link with RSVP, make an invitation website with the same names. Then send the reminder the evening before each event. Three messages, and nobody has to ask where the hall is.
