Thousands of Pakistanis apply for jobs in Dubai, Riyadh, Doha and Muscat every month. Many get filtered out not because they lack skills, but because they send a two-page Pakistani CV with a photo, CNIC and matric marks to a recruiter who wanted one clean page.
Quick answer: a resume for Gulf jobs should be one page, in English, with no CNIC, father's name, religion or matric marks. Put your name and contact details at the top, a 3-line summary, experience written as results with numbers, then skills, certifications and your highest education. Add a photo, nationality or visa status only if the ad or agency asks for them.
Why a Pakistani CV doesn't work abroad
Back home, a CV with a photo and full personal details is normal, and for government jobs it is required (see our CV format guide). Abroad, recruiters see things differently:
- They scan each resume for a few seconds. Two pages of personal details push your experience off the first screen.
- Many international companies avoid photos, religion and marital status to keep hiring fair.
- Your CNIC number means nothing to them and is risky to share widely.
- Matric and intermediate marks don't matter once you have a degree and experience.
The fix is not to hide anything. It's to put the most useful information first and cut what nobody abroad needs. That's what a modern one-page resume is built for.
Resume format for Dubai jobs (and the rest of the Gulf)
Use this order, top to bottom:
- Name and contact: full name, mobile with country code (+92 or your UAE number), email, LinkedIn, and your current city.
- Summary: 2–3 lines on who you are, years of experience, your strongest result.
- Experience: newest first. Job title, company, city, country, dates, then 3–5 bullets each.
- Skills: technical skills and software, short and specific.
- Certifications and licences: ACCA, PMP, IOSH, NEBOSH, PEC, a driving licence (and say if it is a UAE or GCC licence).
- Education: your highest degree in one line. Add the second one only if relevant.
- Languages: English, Urdu, and Arabic if you have any, even basic.

The photo and personal details question
This is the most common worry, so here's a clear rule.
| Detail | Put it on a Gulf resume? |
|---|---|
| Photo | Only if the ad or agency asks |
| Nationality | Yes, one short line, Gulf recruiters often want it |
| Visa status / notice period | Yes if useful: "Available to join in 30 days" |
| Date of birth | Only if asked |
| CNIC or passport number | No, give it later when they request documents |
| Father's name, religion, marital status | No |
| Matric and intermediate marks | No |
Some Gulf agencies and companies have their own application forms that ask for more. Fill those exactly as asked. Your resume itself should stay clean. In the resume maker the designs have no photo by default, so you don't need to remove one.
Write results, not duties
This is the single biggest upgrade for most Pakistani CVs. Compare:
- Duty: "Responsible for sales in the area."
Result: "Grew area sales 32% in one year, from Rs. 1.9 crore to Rs. 2.5 crore." - Duty: "Worked on site supervision."
Result: "Supervised 45 workers on a 12-storey residential project, delivered 3 weeks early with zero lost-time injuries." - Duty: "Handled accounts."
Result: "Cut month-end close from 8 days to 5 by automating bank reconciliations in Excel."
Numbers travel well across borders. A recruiter in Dubai may not know your company in Faisalabad, but they understand 32% growth and 45 workers. Converting rupees to dirhams or riyals isn't needed. Percentages and counts often work even better than money.

Overseas job CV for skilled and trade roles
Not every Gulf job is an office job. Drivers, electricians, welders, nurses, chefs and technicians need a resume too, and the same one-page rules apply. For trade roles, put these near the top:
- Trade and years: "Heavy vehicle driver, 7 years" or "TIG welder, 5 years".
- Licences and test certificates: driving licence class, trade test certificates, any GCC licence.
- Equipment you can operate: forklift, excavator, specific machines or tools.
- Safety record: "No accidents in 5 years" is a strong line for any site job.
Keep the language simple and clear. A recruiter filling 50 driver posts wants to see the licence and years of experience at a glance.
One page resume tips for overseas jobs
- One page, really. Cut old jobs to one line each and drop school-level education.
- Match the job ad. If the ad says "MEP", "commissioning" and "Saudi Building Code", use those words where they are true. Many Gulf companies use ATS software that looks for them. The ATS resume checker shows which keywords from a job ad your resume is missing.
- GCC experience first. If you have worked in the Gulf before, make it obvious near the top.
- Use a professional email. Your name, not a nickname.
- Save as PDF named "Usman-Tariq-Resume.pdf". Some agencies ask for Word files; keep one ready.
- Be careful with agents. Apply through company websites, LinkedIn and licensed overseas employment promoters, and never pay someone just to "forward your CV".
