How to Make a CV With No Experience (Fresh Graduate Guide)

ChatWrapper CV designs for fresh graduates: Simple Classic and Teal Two-Column CVs next to the Fresh Graduate ATS resume

Every job ad wants "1–2 years of experience", and every fresh graduate asks the same thing: how do I get experience if nobody gives me a first job? The good news is that your CV already has more in it than you think.

Quick answer: a CV for fresh graduate puts education and projects where experience would normally go. Lead with a short profile, then your degree with marks, your final year project (FYP), internships, other projects, volunteering, skills and certifications. Keep it to one clean page and write each item as what you did and what came out of it.

How to make a CV with no experience: the order that works

When you have no job history, the order of sections changes. Put your strongest material first. For most fresh graduates in Pakistan that looks like this:

  1. Name and contact details
  2. Profile (2–3 lines)
  3. Education (with your degree, university, year and CGPA)
  4. Final year project
  5. Internships
  6. Projects, freelance work and volunteering
  7. Skills and certifications
  8. Languages and personal information

You can type these into the CV maker on your phone once and then try different designs with a live preview. Nothing needs retyping when you switch.

Turn your FYP into your best "experience"

Your final year project is the closest thing you have to a real job. You worked in a team, met deadlines, solved a problem and presented to a panel. Recruiters know this, so give it space.

Write it like a job entry: project name, your role, the tools, and 2–3 bullet points.

  • Weak: "FYP: Hospital Management System."
  • Strong: "Built a hospital appointment system in Laravel and MySQL with a team of 3. I handled the booking module and SMS reminders. Tested with 2 clinics in Faisalabad; missed appointments dropped in the test month."

Not in IT? The same works for any field. A BBA student's market survey of 200 customers, a civil engineering student's design of a two-storey building, or a pharmacy student's research on a common drug are all real work.

Internships, even short ones

A six-week internship at a bank branch, a summer internship at a textile mill or a month at a software house all count. Write the company, city, dates and what you actually did. "Reconciled daily cash reports for a branch with 1,500 accounts" is much better than "Internship at XYZ Bank".

Projects, volunteering and part-time work

This is where many fresh graduates leave marks on the table. Anything where you did real work belongs here:

  • Semester projects: pick the 1–2 best, not all twelve.
  • Freelance work: logos on Fiverr, a website for your uncle's shop, data entry on Upwork. Paid or not, it shows you can deliver.
  • Tuition: "Taught maths to 6 matric students; 5 got A or A+ grades" is real experience, especially for teaching jobs.
  • Volunteering: blood donation camps, flood relief drives, university society events. Mention what you organised, not just that you were there.
  • Family business: helping at the family shop counts. You handled cash, stock and customers.

Skills for a first job CV: be specific

"MS Office, hardworking, team player" is on every fresh graduate CV in the country. It tells the recruiter nothing. Be specific and honest:

  • "MS Excel: formulas, VLOOKUP, pivot tables, charts"
  • "Python (pandas), SQL, Power BI"
  • "AutoCAD 2D, basic Revit"
  • "Canva, social media posting, basic video editing"
  • "Written and spoken English, Urdu, Punjabi"

Short online certificates (Google, Coursera, DigiSkills) help too, as long as you actually finished them. List the name and year.

CV for students and fresh graduates: common mistakes

  • Two or three pages. At this stage, one page is enough. Cut, don't shrink the font.
  • A photo from a wedding or a selfie. If you add a photo, use a plain passport-size one. In the CV maker the photo is always optional.
  • Copying a friend's CV. Recruiters see the same template from the same batch every year. Your projects make you different, so describe them.
  • Lying about skills. If you write "Python", expect a Python question in the interview.
  • Same CV for every job. Change the profile line and move the most relevant project up for each application.

Applying online? Use the ATS version too

Many companies and almost all multinationals put CVs through software (an ATS) before a human sees them. Fancy columns and graphics can confuse it. For these, the ATS resume maker has a Fresh Graduate design: a single-column layout that puts education and projects first. You can paste the job ad and see which keywords your resume matches and which are missing, then download it as a PDF or Word file.

Frequently asked questions

What should a fresh graduate write in a CV with no experience?

Put your education, final year project, internships, academic or personal projects, volunteering, skills and certifications. Write them like work experience: what you did and what came out of it.

How long should a fresh graduate CV be?

One page. A recruiter should see your degree, your best project and your skills without turning the page.

Should a fresh graduate CV have an objective?

Use a 2–3 line profile instead of a generic objective. Say your degree, what you are good at and the kind of role you want.

Can I put my final year project on my CV?

Yes, and you should. For most fresh graduates the FYP is the strongest thing on the CV, so give it its own section with what you built, the tools you used and the result.

Should I mention my matric and intermediate marks?

Yes, in Pakistan most employers still look at them, especially banks, government jobs and big local companies. Put them at the bottom of your education table.
